Heart Disease vs Stem Cells - History
Release date: 2/6/2010
Here is a complete timeline of Heart Disease vs Stem Cells from 1998 to TODAY!
Heart Disease and Repair Stem Cells have a long history that many people do not fully remember. This month RSCI is focusing on Heart Disease education, awareness and treatment options available TODAY!
1998
Dr Doris Taylor took stem cells from the thigh of a rabbit, injected them into scar tissue in the animal’s heart and repaired the damaged muscle. The research was published in Nature Medicine.
1998-1999
French researchers transplanted muscle cells into a human heart.
2000
Human studies and trials used adult stem cells to regrow muscle tissue, including cardiac muscle tissue and are performed in many countries around the world.
2002
- Dr Taylor herself witnessed in Rotterdam the first patient in the world to get stem cells injected through a catheter into the wall of the heart. Encouraging results came in—improved ejection fractions, reduced diameters, thicker muscle tissue.
- A clinical trial led by Dr. Hans Dohmann plus six colleagues in Brazil took 21 transplant candidates and gave 14 of them bone marrow cells. The results were so spectacular that the American Heart Association accepted the paper and it was presented in 2003. Five of the seven in the control group opted in to make a total of 19 stem cell transplants.
- While American doctors and medical scientists called these cells “unproven snake oil,” Don Margolis, a charter member of the American Academy of Actuaries, showed Repair Stem Cells to be the “greatest medicine in the history of mankind” –mathematically! The mortality rate for transplant candidates is about 35% per year. At that rate there would be, of those 19, only 2.2 patients still alive without a transplant after five years. As of Dec. 31, 2007 (more than five years later), rather than only 2.2 patients…12 of the patients who received Repair Stem Cell treatments were still alive! Your doctor may tell you that this data is “anecdotal,” but an honest statistician will tell you it is over a million to one that this could happen randomly!
2003
The New England Journal of Medicine, with a long history of dismissing Adult/Repair Stem Cell benefits and an adamant focus on only Embryonic Stem Cell treatment “potential,” challenged Zeiher’s incredible results. Ultimately though, as years past and more American clinical trials conducted these same clinical trials; they came up with the same clinical results. They proved and reproved, over and over, both the results of the Zeiher trials and the benefits of Adult/Repair Stem Cell treatments.
2004
- Dr. Amit Patel of Pittsburgh completed two of the most successful trials ever. In Uruguay. He proved, on a group of ischemic heart failure patients, that a bypass plus cells was infinitely better than a bypass only. That same year, VesCell, in Israel, developed a new, powerful blood-derived stem cell and dared to treat the sickest patients no clinical trial (except Brazil) would consider.
- One of the Brazilian doctors, Dr. Perin, came to Texas, used the Brazil results to get the first ASC heart clinical trial approved by the FDA. Over a dozen such approvals were granted in the next 12-18 months. Most American cardiologists refused to accept the proven benefits of Repair Stem Cells. To this day, the majority of US doctors tell their no-option patients that stem cells “don’t work,” or are “dangerous.” In fact, while Repair Stem Cells have never killed ANYONE, the American medical system kills more than one patient a minute.
2005
- Advancements continued as Dr Taylor rinsed rat hearts with detergent until the cells washed away and all that remained was a skeleton of tissue translucent as wax paper. She then injected the scaffold with fresh heart (stem) cells from newborn rats. Four days later, “We could see these little areas that were beginning to beat. By eight days, we could see the whole heart beating.” The experiment, reported in the journal Nature Medicine, marked the first time scientists had created a functioning heart in the lab from biological tissue.
- The first-ever commercial stem cell company in the world started Adult/Repair Stem Cell treatment of hundreds of human patients. Results were amazing and included:
1. Repair Stem Cells regrew cardiac muscle tissue in patients.
2. Repair Stem Cells significantly increased (sometimes a 40% increase) “ejection fraction,” (the volume of blood the heart can pump out per beat)
3. Repair Stem Cells were recognized as “smart,” going to where they are needed most
4. Repair Stem Cells created micro-vessel bypasses around existing blockages areas, around areas that were previously blocked and in areas where stents were implanted.
2007
James Eilert (see RSCI HEART BENEFICIARY story in the February newsletter) is treated via catheter using his own Repair Stem Cells. In his own words: “In Jan 2006, when I was 34 years old I had a ‘widowmaker,’100 % blockage of the left ascending coronary artery. My ejection fraction (EF) was between 20 and 25 percent (55 is normal) and I was told that I had about 5 years left… “
James went from Class III congestive heart failure to Class I with an ejection fraction (EF) increase from ~20-25% to his current EF of 50%. His doctors have lifted all restrictions and limitations on his physical activities. Videos of his tests and results can be found on his Facebook page. James is only one of many adult stem cell treatment success stories.
2008
2009
With hundreds if not thousands of successful Repair Stem Cell treatments around the world for cardiovascular patients, the US s..l..o..w..l..y.. begins to realize the benefits of Repair Stem Cells and interested patients start to see headlines like “Stem Cell Research Effective in Heart Disease Patients” sprout up. Often, the phrase “First Ever” is (erroneously) thrown in for effect. While misguided and uninformed, the fact remains that the preponderance of positive evidence in favor of Repair Stem Cell treatments of heart disease is undeniable. Here are 12 articles that express their support of positive results for Repair Stem Cell treatments of heart disease…the only problem is that they are many years late to the party.
Here is yet another “late to the party” article that cites “first evidence” of stem cells improving heart disease. Ironically, if you Googled the article title [Your Own Stem Cells Can Treat Heart Disease] on the day it was published you would get over 7 million hits…
If you Google the title as a complete sentence “Your Own Stem Cells Can Treat Heart Disease” and you get over 148,000 hits…
THIS is first evidence?!”
More typical USA media misinformation regarding stem cell “discoveries” that are five years too late:
Transplanting people’s own stem cells into heart lessens pain, improves ability to walk
CHICAGO — The largest national stem cell study for heart disease showed the first evidence that transplanting a potent form of adult stem cells into the heart muscle of subjects with severe angina results in less pain and an improved ability to walk. The transplant subjects also experienced fewer deaths than those who didn’t receive stem cells.
2010
Present day. There are currently dozens of stem cell treatment centers around the world (on at least 4 continents) that are using adult stem cells to treat cardiac disease in human patients and regrow both cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue and more. The Repair Stem Cell Institute tracks only the best of these treatment centers and ranks their quality and the effectiveness of their protocols.
